SA 300 Moment: The Blue Hole

>>Reporter: IN THE HEART OF
SAN ANTONIO, HIDDEN IN THE
NATURAL SAWNGT WEARY OF THE
HEAD WATERS SITS A BLUE
HOLE. IT BEGAN THOUSANDS OF YEARS
AGO WHEN THIS STREAM OF
WATER SERVED AS A SOURCE OF
LIFE FOR THE NATIVE
AMERICANS AND SPANISH
SETTLERS. IT’S SAID AT THE TYPE IT WAS
A SPRING THAT ROSE
1,000 FEET INTO THE AIR. THE BLUE HOLE IS THE LARGEST
HOLE OF THE SAN ANTONIO
SPRING WHICH IS FED BY THE
ED WARTS AQUIFER. NOW, BECAUSE SAN ANTONIANS
USE SO MUCH WATER, THE BLUE
HOLE DOESN’T ACTUALLY FLOW. AS YOU CAN SEE, IT’S A
MOSTLY DRY SPOT EXCEPT FOR
WHEN WE GET A LOT OF
RAINFALL. AS FOR ITS NAME SAKE, IT’S
CLEAR TO SEE THAT THE WATER
HERE HAS A SLIGHT TINT OF
BLUE AS IT BUBBLES UP OUT OF
THE GROUND. TODAY THESE VOLUNTEERS AT
THE HEAD WATERS WORK TO
PRESERVE, RESTORE AND
CELEBRATE THE HISTORIC AND
SPIRITUAL VALUE OF THE BLEW
HOLE HEAD WATERS.>>SAN ANTONIO’S MOMENTS ARE
